About the Inductees: Mr. Scott H. Filstrup and Margee M. Filstrup

Inspired by their parents and grandparents, Scott and Margee Filstrup have spent a lifetime with a love, an appreciation and support of opera and classical music. When Scott joined The Williams Companies in 1974, Margee continued her leadership of a singing group that began when the Filstrups lived in St. Louis. In Tulsa, she began a similar singing program for the Junior League of Tulsa in addition to continuing her music teaching and singing career.

After many years of civic involvement, including service on the board of Junior Achievement for which he received a Gold Leadership award from Junior Achievement Worldwide, Scott joined the Tulsa Opera board in 1993. Margee had already been providing Tulsa Opera with public relations counseling at the time.

Soon, Scott and Margee’s combined love for opera along with business acumen was recognized with Scott’s appointment as President and Chairperson of Tulsa Opera. Today, Scott’s dedication to Tulsa Opera continues as he serves as the chair of the company’s Endowment Committee, while Margee serves on the Opera America Center board in New York. Scott, meanwhile, was an original member of Opera America’s national trustees.

A high priority for the Filstrups today is their philanthropic support of trained operatic voices in the areas of health, wellness and longevity. Together, they assisted with the launch of Tulsa Opera’s branch local offering of the Songs by Heart program, which serves twelve retirement centers in the Greater Tulsa area for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Another example of their national civic prominence is Scott’s tenure as president of the 240,000-member Northwestern University Alumni Association. As an alum who earned his BS in engineering and MBA from Northwestern, he served on the board of trustees and currently is a member of NU’s Kellogg Global Board and Bienen School of Music Board. Margee was chair of NU’s music school Dean’s Advisory Board for thirteen years. Northwestern University is an important part of their shared history, and they are honored to have served the intuition through the years.

Professionally, Scott is president of The Consultants Ltd., and during his career has served on more than fifteen corporate boards, including as president the Tulsa Economics Club, the American Marketing Association, The Summit Club, and the Williams Management Association. In addition, he was a committee and board member of the National Association of Business Economics and The American Marketing Association. Currently he is an advisor to energy, health care, and medical device companies.
