Raise Your Voice Tour
Engaging Oklahoma’s kids through storytelling and opera is the focus of Tulsa Opera’s Raise Your Voice Tour initiative. A thrilling journey through the world of opera allows thousands of students across Oklahoma, and more than 4,000 second graders in 51 Tulsa elementary schools, to experience music, drama, art, and dance in one onstage spectacle. Raise Your Voice Tour brings opera up close and personal in an interactive performance.
Raise Your Voice Tour schools receive lesson plans and teaching materials that educators can use in their classrooms. In addition to our visits to area schools, we are honored to bring this opera program to Tulsa’s second graders through the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child initiative.

This Season: Space Encounters
Our show this season is Sean O’Boyle and Ian McFadyen’s Space Encounters, a 50-minute interactive children’s opera LIVE and IN PERSON! This story is about two astronauts, Harris and Jefferson, and their robot, Roland, as they explore an unknown planet in search of a strange radio signal. What (and who) will they find there? Will they be able to return home again? While traversing this new planet, the astronauts also explore lessons of friendship and acceptance while helping one another.
Lesson plans and worksheets are provided by Tulsa Opera to help enhance your students’ experience. This year, our curriculum has a strong emphasis on S.T.E.A.M. which combines science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math to guide student inquiry, discussion, and problem-solving.
All dates for the 2023 Raise Your Voice Tour have been booked! We are excited to be at all of our partner schools in March!

Create Your Own Comet Kit
Tulsa Opera is delighted to announce that we have partnered with the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance to supplement our Raise Your Voice Tour curriculum. As this year’s touring show, Space Encounters, explores the deep reaches of space, we have included materials for a DIY Comet activity. Designed with second graders in mind, we hope this activity is an excellent introduction into what one finds in outer space. Follow along with the video below as Sam Briggs, Artist Coordinator, builds the take-home Create Your Own Comet Kit!
