Opera Echoes

Each season, Tulsa Opera partners with organizations to offer free, thought-provoking community conversations highlighting the intersection of opera and important contemporary issues.

In October 2025, inspired by The Sound of Music, the beloved musical based on the true story of the von Trapp family and their flight from the Nazis in World War II, we collaborated with ACTION Tulsa, the YWCA, and the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art for Opera Echoes: Who Is My Neighbor? and explored the relevance of this classic story by highlighting the refugee work being done in our community today. See the video of this inspiring conversation below.

PAST CONVERSATIONS

2024-25 The Tragedy of Carmen: Domestic Violence and the Operatic Stage. We partnered with Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS) and the Family Safety Center to shine a light on how the opera’s artistic depictions of domestic violence and stalking behavior impact real life, and where Tulsans can find resources for interveners and survivors.
