This week’s Staying Alive video features soprano Sarah Coburn singing “These Summer Nights” by Sergei Rachmaninoff. She is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer.
Sarah Coburn, Oklahoma’s own internationally-renowned opera star, has performed in Tulsa Opera’s productions of Romeo and Juliet, Lakmé, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Barber of Seville, and The Daughter of the Regiment. She will return to the Tulsa stage on Friday, October 9 to sing the role of Gilda in Tulsa Opera’s outdoor production of Rigoletto at ONEOK Field.
Sergei Rachmaninoff was a celebrated Russian composer whose major influences included other Russian composers like Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Balakirev. “These Summer Nights” is one of Rachmaninoff’s 12 Romances (Op. 14, No. 5), composed in 1896.
