On Thursday, July 31st, 2024, the Emmy-award winning docuseries Osiyo TV featured the story of Kate Morton, a Cherokee Nation citizen and former Tulsa Youth Opera student. Kate, who graced the Tulsa Opera stage in the 2017 Tulsa Youth Opera production of The Snow Queen, is currently honing her craft at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. Her dedication to her Cherokee roots and her passion for opera have made her a rising star in the world of music.

Kate’s journey is a testament to her hard work and talent. From her early days performing with the Cherokee National Youth Choir to her recent professional debut with Opera Montana, she has flourished in her young operatic career. This October, she will perform the role of Loksi’ in the world premiere of Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s Loski’ Shaali’: A Chickasaw Opera, the first opera performed entirely in a Native American language. The world premiere will be held at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Canterbury Voices on October 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available at https://canterburyokc.com/shellshakeropera/. This performance, along with her many other accomplishments, marks an exciting milestone in her already impressive career.
