Tomorrow, Tulsa Opera’s special baseball-themed Rigoletto will premiere at ONEOK Field! This will be the first opera performed in America with live singers in front of a live audience since all productions were shut down earlier this spring.

Meet the last of the opera stars bringing this unique production to life, Oklahoma’s very own Sarah Coburn:

Sarah Coburn as Gilda

In the video below, Sarah Coburn sings “Will There Really Be a Morning?” by Ricky Ian Gordon as part of Tulsa Opera’s virtual Staying Alive season.

Described by the Boston Classical Review as “a silvery soprano with an agile coloratura, great musicality, and a complete command of the stage,” Sarah Coburn has sung on stages across the country and around the world. She has graced the Tulsa Opera stage many times, most recently to sing the role of Rosina in the 2018 production of The Barber of Seville.

In this week’s baseball-themed Rigoletto, Coburn will sing the role of Gilda, Rigoletto’s beautiful daughter. In the original opera, Gilda falls in love with the Duke of Mantua, and sacrifices herself to save him from the assassin Rigoletto has hired. How will that role change in this reimagined opera? You’ll have to come to ONEOK Field to find out!
