This October, join Tulsa Opera at ONEOK Field for a special semi-staged, baseball-themed production of Rigoletto!

This classic opera has been updated to take full advantage of its new setting in a baseball diamond, which will also allow for socially distanced seating in safer open-air conditions. Patrons will get the full family-friendly stadium experience: hot dogs, soda, beer, and of course, fireworks!

Meet two of the opera stars bringing this special production to life:

Allegra De Vita as Maddalena

A mezzo soprano from Connecticut, Allegra De Vita has been praised for her “vivid energy” and “bright timbre” by OperaWire. In the clip, she sings “Voi che sapete” from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.

De Vita earned her master’s in vocal performance at Rice University and was a 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finalist, as well as a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. Her recent roles include Angelina in La Cenerentola at Boston Midsummer Opera, Siebel in Faust at Washington National Opera, and Maddalena in Rigoletto at Austin Opera.

She makes her Tulsa Opera debut in October to sing the role of Maddalena, Sparafucile’s sister, in Rigoletto.

Kevin Thompson as Monterone

“A mountain of voice” the San Francisco Classical Voice said of bass Kevin Thompson, who will be stepping onto ONEOK Field in October to sing the role of Monterone. In the traditional opera, Monterone is the count who curses both the Duke and Rigoletto at the beginning of the opera; in this baseball-themed production, he is the owner of the Duke’s baseball team.

In this clip, Thompson sings “Le veau d’or” from Faust during Opera Santa Barbara’s 25th Anniversary Gala.

Thompson is a graduate of Juilliard, AIMS Graz (American Institute of Musical Studies) and Aspen Music Festival. He’s graced stages around the world with his presence, performing with La Folle Journee, New York City Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Kiel, the Gasteig in Munich, and Wexford Opera House in Ireland, to name just a few.
