Meet two more of the opera stars bringing this unique production to life:
Joshua Wheeker as the Duke of Mantua
Tenor Joshua Wheeker is a graduate of LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist program. He has performed throughout the country with companies like Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Opera Iowa, Kentucky Opera, and Des Moines Metro Opera. In this clip, he sings “Ah! Fuyez douce image” from Jules Massenet’s Manon.
Wheeker will sing the role of the Duke in Tulsa Opera’s baseball-themed Rigoletto, where he no longer presides over a royal court, but over a baseball team.
Todd Thomas as Rigoletto
Baritone Todd Thomas has been recognized as one of the true Verdi baritones of our time and his voice has been described as “warm and mellifluous” by the South Florida Classical Review. In the clip below, he sings “Il Balen del suo sorriso” from Verdi’s Il Trovatore, singing as Count di Luna.
He will step onto ONEOK Field this October in the title role of this production, where Rigoletto has been reimagined from a court jester into the baseball team’s mascot.
