Staying Alive

This week’s Staying Alive video features mezzo-soprano Renée Rapier singing “Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix” from Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns. She is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer.

A Grammy Award-winning singer, Renée Rapier has been described as a “dark, velvety mezzo” by Opera News. Tulsa audiences were fortunate enough to hear her earlier this year when she sang the role of Suzuki in Tulsa Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly.

“Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix” is an aria from the second act of Samson et Dalila, which starts with Samson pledging his love for Delilah. In response, Delilah sings this seductive aria. However, she has an ulterior motive with her words: to discover the source of Samson’s strength and turn him over to the Philistines.
