Staying Alive

This week’s Staying Alive video features tenor Matthew White singing “Recondita armonia” from Tosca by Giacomo Puccini. He is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer.

Last season, Matthew White made critically-acclaimed debuts as Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juiliette with Cincinnati Opera and Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the Princeton Festival. Earlier this year, he reprised his role as Pinkerton in Tulsa Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly.

In this aria, the painter Mario Cavaradossi sings of the differences between his portrait of a fair-haired Mary Magdalene and the darker features of his love, Floria Tosca.
