Staying Alive

This special Juneteenth performance features baritone Will Liverman singing “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” by Anthony J. Showalter. He is accompanying himself on the piano.

Will Liverman was last seen on the Tulsa stage in 2019, when he wowed audiences singing the role of The Pilot in the Tulsa Opera’s production of The Little Prince.

“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” is a hymn originally published in 1887, with music by Showalter and lyrics by Showalter and Elisha Hoffman. Showalter wrote the hymn when he was writing letters of consolation to two of his former pupils who had lost their spouses, and found inspiration in Deuteronomy 33:27, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
