Today’s Staying Alive video features tenor Humberto Borboa singing “Als die alte Mutter” by Antonin Dvorak. He is accompanied by Lindsay Garritson on the piano.
“Als die alte Mutter,” or “Songs My Mother Taught Me,” is the fourth of seven songs from Dvorak’s 1880 cycle Gypsy Songs. This song in particular has been recorded by many famous opera singers, including Anna Netrebko, Victoria de los Angeles, Shirley Verrett, Jon Vickers, Martina Arroyo, and Karita Mattila, and concert stars such as Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman.
Borboa is a former Filstrup Resident Artist who last performed on the Tulsa Opera stage in our 2017 production of Tosca, where he sang the role of Spoletta, Scarpia’s right-hand man.
