The fourth video in our Staying Alive series features soprano Madison Leonard singing the Maryanne Aria from Tobias Picker’s Emmeline.
This aria begins the second act of the opera. Emmeline is caring for her elderly parents and anxious for news from her aunt regarding the child she put up for adoption 20 years earlier.
Disappointment, frustration, anger, sadness – all of these feelings come through in this aria where Emmeline confesses the truth of the child to her mother, who is fast asleep and unable to hear her.
