Young Frederic, mistakenly apprenticed to a band of possibly the world’s most incompetent pirates, has finally turned 21. At last he is free to fall in love — which he promptly does — and fulfill his duty, which is to destroy pirates. There’s just one catch! Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious, swashbuckling romance is a comedy classic bursting with toe-tapping tunes from “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General” to “I Am a Pirate King,” from “Poor Wand’ring One” to “O, Is There Not One Maiden Breast?”.

This sparkling cast features star of major operatic and Broadway stages Meghan Picerno as Mabel; Tulsa Youth Opera and Filstrup Resident Artist alum Chris Mosz as Frederic; Jason Zacher, recently featured at our April 2025 President’s Council Dinner Concert, as the dashing Pirate King; Metropolitan opera mezzo-soprano Tesia Kwarteng as Ruth; and acclaimed bass Kevin Thompson, last seen in Tulsa Opera’s Greenwood Overcomes concert, as the Sergeant of Police.

Sung in English, accompanied by the Tulsa Opera Orchestra. 2 hours 15 minutes plus a 20-minute intermission.
