This week’s Staying Alive video features soprano Sarah Coburn singing “How Fair This Spot” by Sergei Rachmaninoff. She is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer.
Sarah Coburn, Oklahoma’s own internationally-renowned opera star, has performed in Tulsa Opera’s productions of Romeo and Juliet, Lakmé, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Barber of Seville, and The Daughter of the Regiment.
Next week, she will return to the Tulsa stage on Friday, October 9 to sing the role of Gilda in Tulsa Opera’s baseball-themed production of Rigoletto at ONEOK Field.
Sergei Rachmaninoff was a celebrated Russian composer whose major influences included other Russian composers like Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Balakirev. “How Fair this Spot” is one of Rachmaninoff’s 12 Romances (Op. 21, No.7).
