Staying Alive

The fifteenth video in our Staying Alive series features tenor Michael St. Peter singing “The King Must Die” from Elton John’s self-titled 1970 album. St. Peter is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer on the piano.

“The King Must Die” pulls its inspiration from Shakespearean kings, including Macbeth, King Lear, and Julius Caesar, all of whom had power only to lose it through various tragedies. The song is a mournful warning of the fates that awaited them.

St. Peter made his company and role debut as Don Ottavio in Tulsa Opera’s 2019 production of Don Giovanni as a Filstrup Resident Artist.
