Tulsa Opera is looking for child supernumeraries for our 2020 production of Emmeline. The roles are outlined below. Please note that the kids do not actually have to be the age indicated; they just have to look like they could be that age.

Harriet – 11yrs
Luke – 10yrs
Andrew – 8yrs
Ellen – 6yrs
Rachel – 6yrs
Sarah – 5yrs
Rebecca – 4yrs
Henry – 4yrs

Our supernumeraries play a vital role in our productions, providing the community settings in which our stories take place and bringing the action and energy to the stage that bring those stories to life.

You do not need any previous stage experience to participate. Our director, Tara Faircloth, will guide you through the rehearsal process and our talented production team will help you navigate the logistics of being in a live-theater performance. Full costume and makeup will be provided.

Emmeline is based on the novel by Judith Rossner, which is in turn based on the true story of a woman from Maine in the 1800s who was sent to work in a mill at age 13, was impregnated – presumably, by rape – by her factory foreman, and subsequently ostracized by her community.

Clearly, there are adult themes in the piece, but there shouldn’t be anything graphic onstage, and the story is sad more than anything else. But please judge for yourself if your child should participate. Here is a link to a performance of the full opera.
