Tulsa Youth Opera is Holding Auditions!

Tulsa Opera, Inc. will hold auditions on Friday, May 14 from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, May 15, from 10-12 p.m. and Tuesday, May 24, from 4-6 p.m. for students between the ages of 8 and 18 to join Tulsa Youth Opera (TYO).  Tulsa Youth Opera is a free, auditioned chorus that meets regularly during the school year on Tuesdays from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. at the Tulsa Opera office, 1610 S. Boulder Avenue.

Founded in 1997, Tulsa Youth Opera is an integral part of Tulsa Opera’s educational and performance programs.  TYO members receive ear-training, music theory and foreign language diction lessons during each rehearsal, in addition to preparing for upcoming performances.

In the past decade, TYO members have participated in numerous main stage Tulsa Opera productions, including such favorites as La Bohème, Carmen and Hansel and Gretel.  During the 2006/07 season, TYO was showcased to great acclaim as the stars of Tulsa Opera’s season opener, The Little Prince, based on the famous children’s story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Projects for the 2009/10 season have included a production of Benjamin Britten’s youth opera, Noah’s Flood, performed in conjunction with the Tulsa Youth Symphony; a spring concert of operatic and choral selections; and performances of Carmina Burana with the Tulsa Ballet.

Tulsa Youth Opera has appeared regularly throughout the community in events such as the Festival of Trees at The Philbrook Museum, HallowZOOeen at the Tulsa Zoo & Living Museum and at numerous area schools and churches.

Auditions can be scheduled by calling the Tulsa Opera office at (918) 582-4035 or by emailing Hailey Vail, Education Coordinator, at hvail@tulsaopera.com.

  1. I have a niece, that has a wonderful voice, but is afraid of the stage by herself. She is very interested in your program, but very afraid of the audition? I am not sure how to get her involved in your program with that problem. Can you help me?

    Thanks Cindi Williams
